MDMA (Markdown Document with Mounted Applications) is an open-source generative UI framework designed to bridge the gap between large language model (LLM) outputs and structured, interactive user interfaces. It enables LLMs to produce validated, renderable components directly within a familiar Markdown syntax, replacing unreliable free-form text or brittle JSON responses with deterministic, application-ready UI definitions.
The framework extends standard Markdown with nine interactive component types, including forms, tables, approval gates, charts, and webhooks, all declared within fenced blocks. This Markdown-native approach is more token-efficient for models to generate than JSON. At its core is a remark-based parser that integrates with the unified ecosystem, coupled with React and React Native renderers for consistent cross-platform deployment. MDMA includes specialized prompts for major AI models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI) and a fine-tuned Gemma-based model, alongside an MCP server for integration with tools like Claude and Cursor. The headless enterprise runtime provides critical features such as an audit log, PII redaction, and a policy engine.
