Idx is a fully web-based, cloud-powered development environment designed for building, testing, and deploying full-stack applications. Accessible through the browser, it removes the need for complex local setup while providing a familiar, VS Code–like editing experience. Its primary purpose is to streamline modern app development by combining coding, AI assistance, and live app previews in a single, integrated workspace.

At the core of Idx is deep integration with Gemini generative AI, enabling context-aware code completion, refactoring suggestions, inline explanations, and chat-based assistance directly within the editor. It supports popular frameworks and languages for web, mobile, and backend development, and offers full-fidelity previews using cloud-based emulators, so developers can see how applications will behave on different devices and environments. Built-in tools for dependency management, terminals, and source control (including Git integration) allow teams to manage the full development lifecycle without leaving the browser. Because everything runs in the cloud, workspaces are reproducible, shareable, and can be quickly spun up or torn down as needed.
