Open Design

Open Design is a local-first design automation tool that connects modern AI coding assistants with reusable design systems. It provides a structured way to generate, refactor, and maintain UI and product design assets directly from your development environment, while keeping all data and assets under your control. Its primary purpose is to turn design into a programmable, repeatable workflow that can be driven from CLIs and AI code tools rather than manual, ad-hoc design work in isolation.

The tool integrates with a broad range of AI-assisted CLIs, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini, OpenCode, and many others, allowing you to orchestrate design tasks through your existing coding workflows. It ships with over 110 predefined “Skills” (automations and recipes) and 141 Design Systems, giving teams a large catalog of ready-to-use patterns, components, and rules. Multiple visual directions (currently five) help teams quickly explore alternative looks while staying within consistent system constraints. Open Design is licensed under Apache-2.0, making it suitable for commercial, open-source, and internal tooling scenarios.
