Azure Document Intelligence

Azure Document Intelligence is a cloud-based service in Azure AI Foundry that uses machine learning and OCR to extract text, structure, and key data from documents at scale. It is designed to convert unstructured and semi-structured content—such as PDFs, scanned images, and forms—into machine-readable information that can be integrated into business workflows and applications. The tool helps organizations reduce manual data entry, improve accuracy, and accelerate document processing across a wide range of industries.

The service offers prebuilt models for common document types such as invoices, receipts, identity documents, business cards, and tax forms, automatically extracting fields like names, dates, totals, and IDs. It also supports layout and general document analysis, capturing reading order, tables, checkboxes, and hierarchical structure. For domain-specific needs, users can train custom models using their own labeled documents, enabling extraction of tailored fields and entities. Azure Document Intelligence provides REST APIs and SDKs for easy integration, along with support for batch processing and asynchronous operations to handle large document volumes.
